Chitral police investigate theft of 550kg of explosives

CHITRAL – Police are investigating the theft of about 550kg of explosives from a South Korean company working on a hydro-power project in the area, officials told Central Asia Online February 21.

"We are investigating the case from different angles, including theft by locals for mining and other use, as well as by militants for sabotage activities," Abd ur Rashid, Chitral district police officer, said.

Police also have interrogated a number of employees of Sambu, the Korean firm. Police registered the theft February 16.

Militants from Afghanistan have fatally attacked security personnel and civilians several times in Chitral.
