CHITRAL: Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf Provincial President Asad Qaiser has said that 5,000 megawatt electricity could be produced in Chitral alone if the hydel resources of the district were utilised.
Speaking at a press conference at the Chitral Press Club on Thursday, he said the country was facing shortfall of 3,000 megawatt while Chitral district alone could provide electricity, which would be in access to the shortfall if micro projects were started at various sites in the district.
He asked the government to launch mini-hydel projects at selected sites in Chitral by utilising the hydropower profits arrears that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has received from Wapda.
Asad Qaiser alleged that the licence for exploration of mines and minerals in Chitral had been given to the Shan Company owned by the sister of President Asif Ali Zardari. He demanded that such licences should be given to the locals.
The PTI provincial president lamented stoppage of work on the Lowari Tunnel Project, saying that it was done at a time when 70 per cent work had been completed.
