Optimal funds allocated for uplift schemes: Minister

CHITRAL: Federal Minister for States and Frontier Region Engineer Shaukatullah Khan has said that as a result of 18th amendment provinces have been financially empowered and they can develop more uplift schemes. This he said while addressing heads of all political parties here on Sunday.

Federal Minister who is on a two day visit to Chitral said that Chitral is rich of mineral resources and by exploiting these resources Chitral would be developed in near future. Referring RAHA project, the minister said that development schemes worth more than 200 million rupees including energy and drinking water are in progress in Chitral.

He directed to identify more such schemes under the said programme. The Federal Minister underlined the need to face the prevailing challenges with iron fist. He lauded the role of law enforcing agencies of Chitral in general and the civil society in particular for maintaining peace in the area. He said Jawans of Law Enforcing Agencies of Chitral have paid valuable sacrifices for the safeguard of the motherland.

The Minister said the ill wishers of Pakistan are engaged in hatching conspiracies against our beloved country and want to destabilize it. He affirmed that with the support of 180 million people, their missions will be foiled. Later, the Federal Minister attended the passing out parade of the Chitral Border Police at Chitral Pologround. He inspected the parade and took salute.

Addressing on the occasion, he announced to change the name of Chitral Border Police by replacing Chitral Levies. He also said that under a phased programme concreted Head Quarter, posts and picquets will be constructed. He said that Levies Pay scales have been upgraded and they will get equal incentives like other law Enforcing Agencies.

The Minister said Shaheed Package for levies have been enhanced from Rs. 5 lac to 8 lac. The Minister also announced that Chitral Levies will be equipped with modern weapons. He also announced to establish levies welfare fund with Rs. 50000/- as seed money.

Earlier DCO Chitral, who is also Commandant of the Chitral Levies presented Welcome address highlighting the achievements of Chitral Levies. Later, the Federal Minister witnessed Polo match between Chitral Levies and Chitral Police teams. The Levies team defeated Chitral Police by 6 goals. The Minister also gave away cups and cash prizes amongst the winner and runner up teams.
