450 to be recruited in Chitral border force

CHITRAL: Federal Minister for Safron and Sports Shaukatullah Sunday said around 450 youth would be recruited in Chitral Border Police Force to better secure the porous border with neighbouring Afghanistan.

Addressing the passing-out parade of Chitral Border Police Force here, he said headquarters for the force and various posts would gradually be built. He also announced Rs50,000 for border police welfare fund. He renamed Border Police Chitral as Chitral Levies. He said personnel of the Chitral Levies would be equipped with state-of-the-art weapons to enhance their capabilities.

District Coordination Officer Rehmatullah Wazir and commandant of the force were also present. Earlier, addressing a gathering of elders, the minister said there was a dire need for tapping the natural resources to reduce reliance on external assistance. He said it was high time to develop better coordination among the government departments to address the woes of the masses. The minister said Rs20 million had been released for the construction of hydro powerhouses and water supply schemes in Chitral. He said compensation package for those killed in terror acts had been increased Rs0.8 million which was 0.5 million previously.
