CHITRAL(The News) : The administration here has beefed up security measures amid growing fear about intrusion by the Maulana Fazlullah-led Taliban group from Nuristan and Kunar provinces of Afghanistan into the district, official sources said.
Addressing the members of the peace committee, the Commandant of Chitral Scouts Colonel Haroonur Rashid said Monday that after the military operations against militants in Swat and Dir Upper large number of militants went across the border into Afghanistan.
They have prepared to come back to Swat and Upper Dir districts to carry out terror acts but were unable due to the presence of Pakistan Army, he said. “We have, however, received intelligence reports about their planning to enter first in Chitral for the purpose,” he said.
District Coordination Officer Rehmatullah Wazir said some elements were striving to destabilise the peace in Chitral. He said they would not let anyone sabotage the peace and asked the people to cooperate with the administration by remaining vigilant. District Police Officer Abdur Rashid and political and social figures were also present on the occasion.
