Lawari Tunnel opens for Traffic.

Chitral (Dardistan Times): The only land route connecting Chitral to the rest of the country is open now for all sorts of traffic after a week long halt. The top was blocked since December last year and an 8.5km long newly excavated tunnel was opened for two hours daily to pass the traffic through.

However, the recent heavy snow hampered that tunnel too. Both sides of the tunnel were dumped with snow and remained closed for about a week.

The National Highway Authority on the direction of Minister for communications has removed the snow on both sides of the tunnel. The tunnel is scheduled to open for only two hours a day.

Chitralies are having hard time to get access to out side of their region due to the uncomfortable communications and transportation.

Due to the PIA operational disintegration, flights to Chitral ware stopped for almost 17 days. Although, the flights have started service to Chitral but uncertain and frequent delays and cancellations concern every one.

The people have demanded the National Highway Authority to open the Lawari Tunnel round the clock to ease the worries of the poor passengers.
