PR - Rawalpindi – February 21: Mrs. Nilofar Bakhtiar, Chairperson Senate Standing Committee on Tourism stressed upon the need to retain PTDC with the Federal Government. This was stated by her during the Senate Standing Committee on Culture and Tourism Meeting held today at Flashman’s Hotel Rawalpindi. She said that due to its corporate status and being the country’s flag bearer at international forums / seminars / exhibitions, the Senate Standing Committee recommends PTDC’s retention with Federal Government and also discourages privatization of its assets. Senator Dr. Abdul Khaliq Pirzada, Senator Sabina Rauf, Senator Farah Aqil and Senator Gulshan Saeed were also present in the meeting.
She advised PTDC to regularize the services of PTDC’s contractual and daily wages employees especially in seasonal and remote areas. She suggested PTDC to launch special packages on the holy month of Ramadhan this year. She said that PTDC should take up the matter with relevant authorities for easing the visa restrictions for sikh yatris coming from India and other countries. Mrs. Nilofar directed PTDC to review the license agreements of its motels and restaurants leased out to private sector. Efforts should be made to vacate the encroached lands / properties of PTDC and matter of Gaddani Beach may be took up with Senate Standing Committee on Shipping.
Mr. Sareer Mohammad Khan, Managing Director PTDC briefed the committee regarding different functions, objectives, performance and future plans of PTDC. He said that PTDC is setting up tourist facilitation centres at all provincial capitals including Gilgit-Baltistan, AJK and Islamabad with latest facilities for tourists that include fax, email / internet, conference hall, audio and visual system. He informed the committee that PTDC has also planned to setup tourist facilities along the coastal line of Balochistan.

Mr. Iftikhar Satti, General Manager (Hotels / Motels) apprised the committee that the main objective of PTDC is to promote and project soft image of the country through publications, advertisements and participation in tourism events alongwith development of tourist infrastructure in those areas of the country where public sector is shy to invest.
