CHITRAL: Provincial Minister for Population Welfare Salim Khan here Friday said that the estimated cost of the Lowari Tunnel Project had risen from Rs8 billion to Rs19 billion.
Addressing a press conference, he said that work on the project was stopped for a year due to the security threats to workers of the Korean company building the tunnel.
Rs2 billion would soon be released for resuming work on the project, he added.
He said another reason for suspension of work on the project was that the design was being changed from rail tunnel to road tunnel.
The provincial minister said Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani had assured on the floor of the assembly that the project would be completed during his tenure.
