Raymond and the American Raj trigger protests in Gilgit-Baltistan

Dardistan Times - The socially and religiously fractured public of Gilgit-Baltistan appeared united on Friday to protest against the American Raj in the region. The public in Gilgit showcased a heap of anger over the release of Raymond Davis, a CIA operative who shoot and killed 2 men in Lahore.

After the Muslim Friday Prayer, people started protesting against the federal government of Pakistan and the United States. The rallies marched through the city chanting slogans against USA and Pakistani Government.

“We want human friendly America” one play card said.  “Traitors are those who befriend with America’, another banner was held up. Rallies later turned into protest gathering where religious, social and student leaders addressed.  The speakers said that the leaders of Pakistan debased the dignity of the nation by pardoning a double murderer of Pakistani citizens.

“It is unfortunate that a professional spy agent who killed innocent people in a daylight was pardoned while a practically harmless women, Afia Sadiqui, has been sentenced 86 years in prison. What sort of justice is this”, a speaker asked the public.

“Pakistan has sold its faith, religion and honour to America. Very soon, the American fed, leaders will hand over Pakistan to America. Pakistan is half way there to become one of the states of the U.S” another speaker lamented.

Addressing the gathering in Gilgit, the Chief of Jamat-e-Islami, Mushtaq Ahmad said that his party and the people of Gilgit strongly condemn the acquittal of the American murderer.

“Pakistani leaders secretly escorted the killer to America. This was celebrated by the US with a freshly carpeted drone attacks that killed 45 people on the spot. The U.S.A has remained no more human friendly; they are killing human beings in bulk everywhere and Pakistan is getting wages for collecting the bodies of its citizens. The nation is completely down with shame” Mustaq Ahmad said. The angry people also demanded for the release of Dr. Afia Siddiqui.

A call for shutter down strike was honoured by the public in Gilgit. The protests in Gilgit were staged on the call of Jamat-e-Islami, Imamia Student Organization (ISO), Anjuman-e-Imamia and other social political circles.

Protests rallies were also reported from Skardu, Chilas and parts of Chitral.

Raymond Davis had killed three people publicly in Lahore and was convicted by the local court. He, however, was released and handed over to U.S.A through Diyat, a provision of Islamic law in Pakistan.
