Via The News - CHITRAL: Corps Commander Peshawar Lt Gen Khalid Rabbani on Friday said security had been upgraded along the Pak-Afghan border to check the infiltration of militants from Afghanistan.
"Now the militants will have to think hundred times before stepping on the soil of Chitral," he told a reception here. He asked the people of Chitral to cooperate with the security forces in maintaining peace and checking the infiltration of the militants operating from Afghanistan.
Major General Qamar Suleman, Lt Col Arif Mehmood of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) and District Coordination Officer Rehmatullah Wazir were also present. Lt Gen Khalid Rabbani said that Chitral's strategic and geographic location was vital and efforts were being made to develop it. He said the Lowari Tunnel project would be completed after the release of funds and the road from Mastuj to Broghal border would also be constructed.
He said the 22-kilometer long road between Mirkhani and Arando border village would also be expanded and metalled. To a question, he said that the announcement to this effect made by the Pakistan Army chief in Drosh sometime back would be materialised. He said Chitralis were patriotic and peace-loving people as they had never allowed any anti-state elements to intrude into the valley and stage acts of subversion.Later, the Corps Commander took an aerial view of the Broghal border. |
