PESHAWAR: The government has banned the entry of foreigners, including diplomats, into the entire Malakand division and three southern districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
“All the foreigners, including individuals and those sponsored by the non-governmental organisations, federal and provincial departments, tour operators or tour guides, may not enter the whole of Malakand division and three southern districts, Dera Ismail Khan, Tank and Hangu, without prior permission from the government,” read a notification of the provincial government issued on Friday.
Malakand division comprises of seven districts including Swat, Upper Dir, Lower Dir, Chitral, Shangla, Buner and Malakand.The area was in the grip of militancy since the year 2007, after which a military operation had to be launched to clear the area. The other three districts in the south also border North and South Waziristan agencies and have been gripped by violence for the last few years.
