Action sought against timber mafia in Chitral

Via The News: PESHAWAR: Residents of Ayun village in Chitral district have expressed concern over growing deforestation in various parts of the region and sought immediate action against the timber mafia.   Speaking at a press conference here on Saturday, a member of Muttahida Council Ayun, Fazlur Rehman, said the authorities had recently taken action against peaceful residents who were demonstrating to demand protection of forests.   "Cases were registered against the innocent people under section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act.   We are peaceful and law-abiding people, but we will not accept illegal cutting of forests in different parts of Chitral," he maintained.
