Govt urged to fill vacant posts of doctors

Chitral—The government of Khyber Pakthunkhwa has been urged by residents to fill up vacant vacancies of doctors in Chitral in order to overcome patients difficulties in hospitals. 

The patients are facing great difficulties in getting timely treatment due to acute shortage of doctors in various government hospitals and Basic Health Units (BHUs) of the district as about 100 posts of doctors are laying vacant in the district.Executive District Officer Health (EDO) Chitral Dr. Sher Qayum said in a statement that 35 doctors are providing services to ailing humanity against 133 sanctioned posts including five posts of BS-19, 42 of BS-18 and 86 posts of BPS-17 in Chitral. He said 100 vacancies of doctors were laying vacant in three Tehsil Headquarters Hospitals (THQ), five Rural Health Centers (RHC), District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ), 20 Basic Health Units (BHU).As many as 20 BHUs were handed over to Peoples Primary Health Initiative (PPHI) a federal government project to effectively utilize its services. However, only five posts of medical officers have been filled by PPHI while 15 BHUs are still without doctors. The posts of Women Medical Officer, Medical Officers, Eye Specialists, Gynecologists, Anesthetic, Cardiologist, Children Specialists, Chest specialist, ENT Surgeon, Medical Specialist, Nephrologists, Orthopedic Surgeon, Physiotherapists, Psychologist, Radiologist, Dermatologists, Surgical Specialists and Female Dental Surgeon are vacant in these hospitals.The demand for filling up of vacancies has been forwarded to concerned authorities but still posting of doctors is awaited, he added. There is six seats of Chitral quota in different medical colleges of the province and some 60 doctors have done MBBS on Chitral domicile but unfortunately most of them are not willing to serve in Chitral for economic gains. The social and political circles of Chitral have appeal Chief Minister KPK and Health Minister for fulfilling of these vacant posts and doctors belong to Chitral must be made bound to serve at least for 2 years at their parent district.
