3,169 killed, 6,540 hurt in 2,488 blasts in 2 years صرف دو سال میں 3169 جانیں گئیں۔

ISLAMABAD - The Senate was informed on Friday that 3,169 persons were killed while 6,540 others got injured in 2,488 incidents of bomb blasts including suicide bombings across the country during years 2008-09 and 2009-10.

In his written reply, Interior Minister Rehman Malik told that 606 accused were arrested during the same period in the backdrop of these terrorist acts, while courts acquitted 352 accused giving benefit of doubt.

Giving break-up of the terrorist attacks he said that during the said two years, 1,663 attacks occurred in Balochistan, 716 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 56 in Sindh, 27 in Punjab, 16 in the Federal Capital and 10 in Azad Kashmir. According to statistics provided with, during the year 2008-09, 1157 registered terrorist acts including suicide bombings claimed 1579 lives. While during year 2009-10 1590 people were killed in 1331 terrorist acts. The province Khyber Pakhtunkhwa remained on top in case of life losses as 1,524 precious lives were lost and 4,463 people sustained injuries in a record 716 terrorism incidents during the years 2008-09 and 2009-10. The KP courts acquitted 302 accused against 479 accused captured by the KP law enforcement agencies.

605 people were killed in 27 terrorist acts in Punjab, while 760 killed in 1663 terrorism acts in Balochistan province during the same period. In federal capital 125 people lost their life in 16 different incidents of terrorism. 
To another question, the interior minister informed that four religious outfits including Lashkar-e-Islami, Ansar-ul-Islam, Haji Namdar Group and Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan were banned for their involvement in terrorist acts during the last three years.

He further told that these religious organizations were banned under the Anti-Terrorism Act 1997. In his written reply, Malik informed the Upper House that the Interior Ministry issued 140,194 non-prohibited bore licences, while the number of persons having prohibited bore in the country is 47,185. The interior minister told that arms licences were issued after approval from competent authority, authorisation letter was issued to NADRA under signature of Joint Secretary (Admin/Security).

Meanwhile, following hue and cry of the legislators over the continuous absence of ministers from the Upper House of the Senate, Chairman Senate Farooq H Naek directed Leader of the House Nayyar Bokhari to bring the matter into the notice of the Prime Minister.

On this Leader of the House assured that he would take up the matter with the Prime Minister. “I have already written a letter regarding the issue to Premier,” he added.

Chairman Senate Farooq H Naek said minister were least bothered to attend the session to respond the questions of the honourable senators.

During the speech of Senator Abdul Rahim Mando Khail, Senator Raja Zafarul Haq pointed towards the behaviour of ministers who were present in the House but sitting on last row. Haq said that the government’s interest is witnessed from this behaviour as no minister was taking notes of such an important speech. These remarks compelled both the ministers to come forward.
