Jinnah Hospital’s nursing staff observes complete strike over assault on nurse

Online KARACHI: After the case of assault on a nurse in Jinnah Hospital on Tuesday, the nursing staff, on appeal of Nursing Council observed complete strike and strongly demanded stern action against the culprit, Dr. Abdul Jabbar.

According to the neuro surgeon of Jinnah Hospital, Professor Sattar Hashim the nurse has been known to have suffered severe brain injuries and might have to undergo a serious operation.

In her initial medical report, the lady medico legal doctor Dr. Fareera has confirmed sexual assault on the hapless nurse, while police has arrested former Medico Legal Officer (MLO) Dr. Abdul Jabbar Memon for being the culprit.

Some nurses also tried to attack the wounded culprit doctor, but he was duly saved by police officials guarding him.

According to Hospital administrative sources, they received the information on Tuesday evening at 1700 hrs, that a nurse was lying unconscious in doctors’ mess No. 96, and who was immediately shifted to emergency ward for treatment, where she was recognized as a third year nursing student in Jinnah Hospital and was known to have jumped from the roof of Dr. Memon’s flat.

She is said to have received severe injuries in head and rest of her body, while signs of other torture were also visible. After the occurrence of the regrettable incident, it was learnt that Dr. Abdul Jabbar Memon had also jumped the roof, and was admitted to the orthopedic ward, following which FIR for attempt to murder against Dr. Abdul Jabbar Memon on behalf of security incharge Muhammad Akram Janjua, was issued.

Sources have informed that the MLO, Dr. Abdul Jabbar Memon did not enjoy good reputation, for his nature of sexually harassing women staff, as administration of Jinnah Hospital had complained in writing that during his appointment in medico legal section, he had tried to harass a women doctor of emergency department.

Police surgeon, Dr. Hamid informed that Dr. Jabbar had been ordered to report to Health department, for his transfer from Jinnah Hospital.

The Provincial health minister, Dr. Sagheer Ahmad has assured media that the assaulted nurse would be provided full justice.
