CHITRAL: The Kalash people are preparing to celebrate their traditional festival, Chilimjusht, from May 12 to 16 amid a hustle and bustle in the two valleys of Ramboor and Bamburet.
The Kalash people have thronged the bazaar in Chitral city to buy necessary items as rush of tourists is expected in the valleys this year. Hotels and rest houses in the two Kalash valleys as in Chitral town are being renovated to provide accommodation facilities to local and foreign tourists, who visit the area in large numbers.
“We are expecting a lot of tourists this year owing to peace in the neighbouring areas,” Doordana, a Kalash girl, told The News. “Our areas have also been affected by terror activities in the country. Now we hope the things are under control and people will enjoy our festival,” she added.
A local journalist, Mokhkamuddin said it was a good sign for the area that the foreign tourists had started visiting the area. He said the incidents of terrorism in the neighbouring districts had badly affected tourism in Chitral. He said this year not only foreign but also domestic tourists had got rooms reserved in hotels in Chitral and Kalash valleys well ahead of the festival.
